well usually in yoga you don't wear shoes and you just wear relaxing and comfortable clothes.
I'm not sure about pilates though.
A pilot study revealed that as few as 12 sessions of yoga could significantlyimprove the conditions of rheumatoid arthritis sufferers.
The study was presented before the 13th Congress of the APL of Associations for Rheumatology in Yokohama, Japan by a team of Specialists from the United Arab Emirates.
A specialist rheumatologist, from the Dubai Bone and Joint Center, Dr. Badsha expressed the opinion: ‘It is possible that yoga may have important physical and psychological benefits for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.’
Dr. Badsha is the lead investigator of several clinical trials of different medications for RA. The study was funded by the Emirates Arthritis Foundation. The foundation has taken a front seat in the education and well being of arthritis patients in the UAE since 2006.
ok, i bought two exercise DVDS of pilates and yoga.
- do these exercise videos REALLY help you?
- do you need yoga bricks to perform the exercises (instructor uses them)
- is it okay if i substitute a carpet for a yoga/pilates mat?
- if i do plan to buy a mat, do i have to buy both a yoga and pilates mat or will one do for both?
- for those of you who practise yoga and pilates, do you really feel a difference in your way of life, body, and health?
It does help. Pilates helps to strengthen your core which most people are too lazy to work on. Your core is your abdominal area, there is also some emphases on strengthening your back through this. Your body gets it's balance from being strong and well rounded. Your abs are what will give stability to the rest of your body. Pilates also helps lengthen and strengthen your extremities (arms and legs). People call this toning or defining
Yoga helped me to relax and to learn to breathe well. Eventually it helped me become more flexible.
Your mat should just be a comfortable cushion for you. Make sure you can do the moves without any excess pressure on joints or any kind of pain. Your carpet can be abrasive, and carries dust mites…not healthy for the breathing. The accessories are very helpful. You do not need to go to an expensive place to find these. Even Ross, or Marshall's have these products regularly.
These videos will help you only if you use them, and are consistent. If you become lazy…they will not work. Find out what works for you. Some people can do this by themselves, others may need a friend or family member to do it with them. Some people need the social environment of a gym. Find out what works well for you.
Congrats on the start. Keep the fire burning! Stay healthy – a gift to yourself.

I want to do pilates to tone and sculpt my body. The two kits I am looking at both have different equipment. Which should I choose?
1-Karen Voight Body Sculpting System
* yoga mat
* 2 Vids and booklets
* two genie balls 5 lbs weights
* 65 cm stability ball
Pilates kit
* 3 flat and 3 circular bands for stretching
* 65 cm stability ball
* yoga strap – 8 ft
* yoga brick ( whats this for?)
* two hand grips
* Yoga mat
* Yoga chart
I'm a beginner so I'm not sure what equipment I will need. I know I definiately want the stability ball.
From personal experience, all you really need is a mat, a book and/or DVDs to practice at home. And if you're not that flexible, you should get a yoga strap and yoga bricks.
So, as far as the equipment above, they are more catered to (but not limited to) those specific programs or programs like it.
It also, just boils down to how much money you're willing to spend. Amazon.com has good prices on yoga DVDs, books and equipment/kits and you can get free shipping on items over $24.
I also know from personal experience that a stability ball is a good piece of equipment to have, but of course, not necessary to have a successful yoga practice.
Practicing Yoga and Pilates is nothing new. Yoga has been around for centuries but has enjoyed a revival of interest in the past few decades. It is not just naturalists, Buddhists or Hindus practicing, it is now a mainstream form of exercise and relaxation. If you do not have a regular workout program or even if you want a change of pace, Yoga or Pilates may be what you need. You can look good and feel good quickly. It was my intent to complete the entire Advanced Pilates Mat routine in three minutes. I would only have to do one or two reps for each exercise. I got carried away and did more reps than necessary, I choked it took 12 minutes to finish. My technique is not exactly great but it’s definitely better than when I started. I’ve had to undo years of weight training… Check us out at www.adamtraining.com, Adam’s Personal Training Austin, TX
These last couple of day’s i’ve been doing 10 minute pilate workouts on my carpet lol. I haven’t had any problems, does not using a mat make a difference w/ your results?
THANK YOU [:
The classes at the local Gold’s gym are preformed on a wood floor. Even though that floor was built with special padding to make it more flexible you’d still need a pad for more comfortable support. On carpet you’re likely OK. If I had a pad I’d use that on the carpet as well for added comfort. you know from doing those movements often you’re laying on another body part with a lot of your own weight, even if only briefly, it’s good to have support.
This is a great video for building core strength and opening up the hips. It will also work your butt and hamstrings. Great for stretching and strengthening the whole body. Look better naked!
