I am thinking of buying a Wii solely (at first) to buy my wife the Wii Fit. She is trying to lose weight and stay in shape. She has the whole pilates DVDS and Yoga mat but she kind of slacks. She also walks….

I said all that to say this… With all the extra stuff is it really worth it? In excess of 300 bucks. I mean logically I will get some use out of it if they ever come out with some better games. Only reason I am thinking about it is because I truly think she will stick to it. Price tag just scares me away a little

Wii Fit doesn’t make you lose a great deal of weight. It just helps. If you don’t think she will use it every day or every two days or so then don’t buy it. If she is just going to use it sometimes then you are better off just getting another game.

If you want her to lose weight, then join a gym together and start exercising and eating healthy together. Doing it together will make her want to do it more because she will have you to talk to on walks and all of that stuff.

Does Wii Fit get really boring after time?

Pilates Mat Exercise To achieve the greatest balance, coordination, flexibility, while improving your body sculpting and strength, it is recommended that you add at least one Yoga and Pilates mat class to your weekly regimen.

While you won’t achieve the weight loss or endurance that a firm cardio workout provides, you will gather other important skills to help your performance in other activities. Yoga focuses more on breathing, relaxation and spirituality, whereas Pilates will give you more of an athletic style training workout improving your core strength.

I am looking for a type of exercise or martial arts that is stretching & flowing movements. It needs to be something you mostly do standing, not on the floor on a mat like pilates. I'm not into yoga either….so is there anything else out there? thanks

You can do stretching exercise on your individual muscle groups or do a whole body stretching.

Here's the hows of doing the whole body stretching: http://www.perfect-body-toning.com/stretch-exercise.html

It also includes stretches on these individual muscle groups: upper/lower back, shoulder, hips, calf, hamstring and neck.

Always do your stretches after your workout. You can also stretch before workout but do it after the warm-up.

I've been doing Pilates for a few months now and I've noticed it once I got the mat appropriate for Yoga/Pilates a couple of months ago.
My best friend also had the same problem 2 years ago from doing Pilates, and it ended up being a pretty big cyst. She had to get it popped and drained – expaining it detail how it was the most painful thing she's ever had done to her.
I haven't done the workout for a week now to see if it subsides, but it doesn't seem to be. I don't want to go to the doctor either, just wondering if I could do something do make it go away or to find out what it is exactly. I don't think it changes in size and I don't feel a bump like on my friend's tailbone.
AAHHHH – I just sneezed and oh my GOSH the pain!!!

Sounds more like a bruised or fractured tail bone to me.

i was told that pilates really leans u out and makes u toned without adding bulk…is this true? i was always under the impression that pilates was similar to yoga s othats why i never tried it…i did yoga and i didnt like it very much. can anyone tell me what their pilates class is like and their thoughts on it…did u lose weight or get toned from doing it? also do u have to bring anything with u to class? i usually bring water or gatorade to my fitness classes…do i need to bring a mat or weights or something? thanks

I've heard of Pilates helping with weight loss, although I've never tried it myself for those purposes. If you really want to lose weight be sure to pair it with some cardio exercises, too.

Pilates is great for strengthening and toning muscles. It's the best way to "polish up" your body if you're at your ideal weight but would still like to look better. Bring water and a mat, you usually don't need any other equipment. Some sessions may use resistance bands, weights, or balls but basic introductory courses probably don't. You may want to ask the instructor first just in case.

Go ahead and try it, it's great for the body and the mind. Have fun, but be prepared to be sore if you're new to it!

Both Yoga and Pilates and improve mental awareness, because they require practitioners to remain focused on their body to maintain correct posture and proper breathing techniques that is where the similarity between the two disciplines end.

The focal point of a Pilates program is improving the strength of your core muscles. These are the muscles required for improved support of the spine and improved posture. Pilates aim is developing core strength and muscle tone thus keeping your body’s core flexible and strong.

Adding Yoga with your Pilates routine will add agility and flexibility to your workout. Yoga will help to improve overall body strength. By adding the combination of Pilates Yoga to your routine will aid in harmonizing your body and mind through a proper balance of poses, meditation, and breathing while improving muscle tone and strength throughout your body.
