I’m 17, 5′9, and 125 lbs (I’m Skinny, obviously. I can basically eat anything and weight gain is difficult for me) and I’m wondering what would be the best workout plan to get a toned/lean body. I would like to add muscle, (Not bodybuilder size tho) and have a body similar to that of a models, for example, not huge and ripped. I don’t have access to a gym, so machines in the answer won’t do me any good. I do have running room, a pull-up bar, yoga mat, & dumbbells. I would prefer a workout that is cross disciplined (yoga, pilates, free-weights, cardio, etc.) and that will receive the best answer. Sorry if I’m picky lol!
do yoga! I love it and it will get you the desired results. pilates would work too, but if you’re already thin, why would you want to work out that hard?!

I want to tone my WHOLE body: I want toned arms, back, stomach, butt, thighs, calves. Basically the whole works.
I want an exercise that can provide similar physical results as cardio exercises like swimming/jogging where you look lean and toned with NO bulk.
I searched this up on this site and most people say Pilates is better if you wanna sweat it out and tone – it has better physical results than Yoga, which is my goal.
My questions are:
1. Is Pilates is better than Yoga for toning and firming with NO bulk?
2. If so, what are the general tools I need for Pilates? (like a mat etc.)
3. How long does it take to achieve the results and how often do I have to do it?
4. Can I totally be dependent on only Pilates to keep me toned and maintain my physique?
5. Can I do the same moves all the time? As in will my body stop "responding"?
6. Is it Pilates or Yoga that Eva Longoria does on Desperate Housewives?
and last question which I forgot: how long does a session of Pilates take?
Pilates is a great core workout, with eating right and doing the methods correctly you can tone a shape without the use of heavy weights. u dont need the mat persay, but it would be good to get into a class or work with someone who already does it until you get the hang of it. I cant remmeber if she was doing yoga or pilates. you should do it every other day. not every day otherwise you as just breaking down your musles not doing anything to tone. cardio is the only thing you should do everyday.

Sweaty palms need yoga help!
I do a yoga/pilates class a couple times a week but I have really sweaty palms and I lose my poses I have my hands on the mat for very easily. I have a pair of Yoga Paws, but they are really bulky and embarrassing. Any other ideas?
The yoga paws don't really work either.. my palm is so sweaty inside them they slide out!
I have the same problem. I bought a bottle of baby powder and rubbed a bit on my hands before yoga. It helped me grip better and I was able to hold the poses better! If you prefer something less scented (or less obvious) try Talc powder. Talc is an element that gymnysts use to help them grip on their landings. That white stuff you see on their hands and feet? Talc powder. Good luck!
pilates mat workout
When setting up an exercise routine is it better to do aerobics then strengh train or use separate days?
I am trying to get started working out and I don't know if having your heart rate up high and then lying down for yoga or mat pilates is a good thing.
It's best to do both on alternate days. The aerobics help burn the fat and getting a little muscle will help boost your metabolism.
Yoga Pilates Mat Exercise
Yoga and pilates may seem to be one in the same to a lot of Americans. However, there are some basic differences;
Yoga pilates, works towards sculpting the body and increasing flexibility. Pilates Mat exercise will not work the heart or lungs like a cardiovascular workout will, but they add to an overall state of mental and physical wellbeing. Yoga and pilates are so similar that they’re often fused together in workout videos and yoga pilates mat classes across America, although it’s sort of a Western fusion. In India, yoga is something entirely different than the German-created pilates. Read the rest of this entry
